Foreign Exchange

November 30, 2007

In 1970s, a foreign trip used to be dream for many of the Indians. They yearn to see a foreign land atleast once in lifetime. It seems that , more than this , its far more exciting to pack things for the travel .

Its hard  to believe but true, that Indians going abroad were allowed to take only 8$ of foreign exchange. Eight dollars is hardly any money even in those days.

Its suprising that people used to insert dollar bills in tootpaste tubes, talc powder bottles, around refill in a pen and so on ..inorder to escape from customs officers. This makes a foreign trip more thrilling.

Note: It seems that now they allow 10000$ when we go a trip abroad

P.S: Based on an article in Sunday TIMES.
